The site is near the down-drift end of a highly altered drift cell (Anacortes' not-quite working E waterfront)that has lost virtually all of its natural bluff sediment sources, and the site had been erosional in recent decades, seemingly with beach coarsening. The anchored log drift sills/groins were intended to keep the imported sediment on-site for a longer time than it would have otherwise stayed, and also to add complexity to the beach in an area without much LWD--ALL the trees are gone in the up-drift area.Jimnoreply@blogger.com
